Estate Surveyors Pledge to Maintain High Standards
Estate Surveyors and Valuers from across Nigeria have renewed their commitment to maintaining professional standards and ethics within the real estate sector.
This commitment was made during the 2024 Valuers Assembly, recently held in Abuja, under the theme: “Valuation as a Tool for Revamping the Economy: The Role of Estate Surveyors and Valuers.”
In his opening remarks, Dosu Fatokun, Chairman of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria, underscored the vital role that estate surveyors and valuers play in the country’s economic development.
He stressed the significance of the profession, particularly in the current economic environment characterized by high inflation and uncertainty.
“Your expertise in valuation goes beyond being a technical skill; it is a crucial tool for economic recovery, especially during these challenging times,” Fatokun remarked.
He emphasized that the assembly was more than just a meeting; it served as a unique platform for reaffirming their commitment to professional standards, ethics, and integrity.
Fatokun encouraged attendees to use the assembly as an opportunity to network, exchange knowledge, and collaborate on innovative solutions that would advance both the profession and the nation.
“This is where we should find new inspiration and motivation to uphold these standards,” he stated.
The assembly also highlighted the critical role that estate surveyors and valuers play in aiding the Federal Government’s initiatives to foster economic growth and ensure affordable housing for Nigerians.
“We can contribute to a strong economy and affordable housing for all Nigerians by making our services available in the states where we operate,” Fatokun added.
He urged all registered surveyors to closely engage with the discussions and presentations throughout the assembly.
He stressed the importance of earning continuing education units to renew practice licenses in 2025.
“Let us all dedicate ourselves to continuous learning and professional growth as we work to advance our profession and support our nation’s economic prosperity,” he encouraged.
He noted that the theme of the assembly highlighted the profession’s significance in promoting economic growth, particularly through valuation for attracting investment, ensuring fair compensation for compulsory land acquisition, and other vital aspects of asset valuation.
“Valuation for mobilizing investment is currently a top priority, as is valuation for fair compensation in cases of compulsory land acquisition,” Fatokun emphasized.
In his remarks, Stephen Jagun, Chairman of the Professional Practice Committee, reiterated the critical importance of ethics and integrity within the profession. He noted that the assembly provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional growth.
“As professionals, we must acknowledge our duty to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity. We need to embrace continuous learning, adapt to the changing market dynamics, and remain committed to excellence,” Jagun stated.
The assembly featured presentations and panel discussions on various topics, including the impact of valuation on the economy, insurance valuation amid inflation, and the role of technology in enhancing professional practice.
The keynote address, delivered by Felix Ohiwerei and titled “Leading with Integrity: The Intersection of Ethics, Personal Growth, and Corporate Success,” set the tone for the day, highlighting the connection between ethics, personal development, and corporate achievement.
He reminded the estate surveyors and valuers of their crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
