Sanwo-Olu Advocates for Eco-Friendly Real Estate Development

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the need for innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in shaping the future of Lagos’ real estate sector.

He made this statement during the recent two-day real estate discussions and awards event, organized by Thinkmint Nigeria at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the 2024 REDA for its theme, “Navigating Change in Real Estate for a New Era,” saying it aligns with the current changes in the industry.

He emphasized that real estate is not only about constructing buildings but also about creating communities, boosting economic growth, and promoting social development.

He said, “This administration is committed to ensuring that Lagos State continues to lead in real estate development through comprehensive policies and infrastructure investments.

“Our efforts to streamline land title registrations and secure property ownership by issuing Certificates of Occupancy have boosted investor confidence and reduced property disputes, making Lagos a more attractive destination for real estate investments.”

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the crucial role that infrastructure projects, such as road expansions and the development of transportation networks, have played in unlocking the potential of key areas.

In addition, the Governor emphasized the administration’s focus on sustainability, particularly in coastal areas like Eko Atlantic City, stressing the importance of green building practices and flood defenses as part of Lagos’ long-term strategy to tackle environmental challenges and climate risks.

Meanwhile, the Managing Partner of Thinkmint Nigeria, Imeida Olaoye, in her welcome address, praised the efforts of industry stakeholders in embracing the theme, “Navigating Change in Real Estate for a New Era.” She urged industry professionals to think creatively and collaborate to develop solutions that address current challenges.

Olaoye also highlighted the importance of discussing technological advancements, policy reforms, and market shifts, which are all crucial to the future success of the real estate sector.

The Managing Director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Ayodeji Joseph, stressed the need to reshape real estate strategies to adapt to the rapidly changing world.

He noted that the event’s theme reflects the industry’s need to rethink traditional approaches to stay competitive.

Joseph reaffirmed LSDPC’s dedication to developing solutions that meet immediate housing demands while fostering long-term economic and infrastructural growth.

He also encouraged participants to engage in meaningful discussions and explore innovative ideas to address the evolving demands of the real estate sector, reiterating LSDPC’s support for the event and expressing optimism about the industry’s future.
