Town planners want the government to give sustainable development first priority.
The government has been urged by the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners to give priority to sustainable development, deal with the underlying causes of insecurity, and enhance accessibility to necessities.
The president of NITP, Nathaniel Atebije, stated during the organization’s most recent news conference, “We cannot but acknowledge the pains unleashed by the rising costs of common commodities, particularly food items.” The suffering in this place is indescribable, particularly since a man who is hungry and finally enraged could endanger society.
He applauded the advancements achieved in transportation networks and electricity generation in certain areas, such Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, but emphasized that more effort was still needed to address the issues the nation was facing.
He voiced concern about the sluggish rate of agricultural development, the lack of security, and the quick urbanization that had resulted in poor housing, inadequate infrastructure, and environmental problems.
“We call on other state governments to take advantage of the restructuring that the Federal Government has done in the electricity sector and ensure that other independent power plants covering their various domains are fully operational to enhance the development of the country,” the president of NITP said.
The NITP stressed that in order to guarantee a better future for Nigerians, it is imperative that the government move decisively to promote sustainable development, address the underlying causes of insecurity, and enhance access to basic necessities.
As citizens of this country and professionals, we can state that the experience has been both rewarding and painful. To guarantee a better future for Nigerians, we must prioritize sustainable development, Atebije continued.
